Certification Brings Expertise
Search and Rescue Operations require specialized knowledge. Through our courses, individuals develop a comprehensive understanding of the skills and equipment required to perform their duties to the highest standards "So that others may live."
The FUNSAR course provides knowledge concerning the general responsibilities, skills, abilities, and the equipment needed by persons who are assigned to field operations during a wilderness search and rescue (SAR) mission. The FUNSAR course also provides students with practical exercises and a practice search mission. This course is based around wilderness and rural environments, but the material is recommended as a basis for all SAR environments.
The SARTECH II level of certification is the intermediate level for SAR personnel. This is Operations level and is recommended for any person who functions on SAR missions as field searchers. This course tests the rescuer's knowledge and proficiency with land navigation, tracking, rope skills, and area/route search. It also covers topics such as NIMS Incident Command System, Basic Survival, Search Tactics, Handling Evidence, etc.
The SARTECH 1 level of certification is the advanced level for SAR personnel. The level is recommended only for persons who function on SAR missions as field searchers and who may function as Crew Leader. This course tests the rescuer's knowledge and proficiency with hazardous terrain skills (belaying), patient transport and advanced land navigation. It also covers topics such as small unit leadership, crew safety, advanced search techniques and tactics.
Advanced Search and Rescue (ADSAR) is a NASAR course designed to educate the experienced field searcher in preparation for working as a crew leader on a search. This course expands on the knowledge and skills taught in the previous courses, and introduces management concepts, crew tactics, and SAR dog tactics. The ADSAR course contains valuable information that can be used in many aspects of search response and contains information not found in other search courses.
